Directed and produced by Alastair Lee, the film will tell the story of Leo’s expedition to attempt the first ascent of the magnificent Cerro Autana, as well as footage of some of the very rarely seen locations that the team visited.

Sir Chris was joined by around 30 members of the Berghaus Asia team and representatives from the media. The hike was split into 2 groups with one group taking a steep route over the top of the ridge and the other taking a lower route. The team trekked through bamboo groves and woodland and got to see some amazing views over Hong Kong’s coast. There was also some added adventure when a pit viper snake was spotted crossing the trail ahead.

Whilst in Hong Kong Chris also gave a talk entitled  ‘Boundless Horizons’ at the Royal Geographic Society, where a captivated audience of around 400 people listened to his tales of adventure from around the globe.

The Berghaus Adventure Race included 3 different categories – beginner (30km), challenger (60km) and master (150km, overnight). The challenges within the race were focused on running (orienteering), hiking, biking and climbing.

Two Berghaus teams enetered the race – the women’s Berghaus team consisted of Angela Dugdale (Berghaus EMEA Sales Manager) and Dana Eichinger (EMEA Marketing Manager) who completed the 30km race.

The men’s team, Berghaus Adventure, was made up of Sven Förster and Neil McQueen who completed the 150km overnight race. Neil and Sven even managed to cross the finish line first!

Our Retail Trainer Angela Coates recently spent the day with retail staff from Berghaus stores putting products from our new Autumn/Winter range to the test. Here Angela shares her adventure.

 
With Berghaus stores just receiving their new exciting Autumn Winter 12 range it was time for the staff to get to grips with the new technologies and products.

Staff from Metro Centre, Dalton Park and Gretna stores came up to the Berghaus Head Office for an in depth look into some of the new pieces.

Firstly they were tasked with a tricky scramble along the coastline near Sunderland, a great chance to test some of the new SS13 Vapour Storm Jackets that have just been launched early online, not to mention having some fun conquering some boulder problems!

Another product that was getting a good test was the recently acclaimed “best in test” BIOFLEX Rucksack. The uneven rocky terrain provided a great platform for a real test-staff loved the bag (they didn’t know we had filled it full of sand bags) Sshhh!!

After the morning walk it was back to the office for a session with MtnHaus Guru James Hodgson who took us through the all new Ramche and Ilam jacket and a great demonstration on the benefits of Hydrodown™, staff were left spitting feathers they were that impressed!

Berghaus are very lucky to have our own in house Lab so staff were given the opportunity to go through all the machines that we use for testing fabrics. Fabric testing goes through a number of vigorous Lab tests aswell as being put through a minimum of 200 hours on the hill testing.

Everyone had a great action packed fun day and are now empowered with oodles of knowledge for the season ahead!

Over the course of two days, 10 lucky winners were equipped with a vast range of skills that would not only help them navigate their way across the 23.5km Fan Dance route, but also enable them to survive in the wild.  To give them the very best chance of completing the challenge, Berghaus kitted the team out from head to toe in Berghaus gear.

The aim for the team was to complete the route in under 4 hours, which is the time set for military recruits to finish in.  Amazingly 5 of the winners came in in under 3 hours with all but one of the team finishing in less than 4 hours.

Set in the heart of the Brecon Beacons in South Wales, the 23.5km route reaches a maximum elevation of 886 m at the peak of Pen y Fan and the chosen team are aiming to complete it – just like British Special Forces recruits – in just 4 hours.

One of the team members chosen to tackle the infamous route is Brendon Roberts a 34 year old South African born Town Planner based in the UK who applied for the challenge after reading about it in the Berghaus e-newsletter.

As well as Brendon there are five other men and four women, aged between 22 and 46 will make up the first team to attempt to complete the Fan Dance route set in the Brecon Beacons, in South Wales, later this year.  The Fan Dance is a true test of mind and body, so the team has been carefully selected to ensure that the members have similar fitness levels and demonstrate the right combination of experience, passion and dedication.

To ensure that they are prepared for the challenge ahead, British Military Fitness instructors have put together a special fitness training plan that the team will follow over the next six weeks.  To give them the very best chance of completing the challenge, we’re kitting the team out from head to toe in Berghaus gear.
