The Asgard Project gets a local screening

Multi award winning The Asgard Project will be screened in England’s North West next month.

The Asgard Project, featuring a host of North West talent including multi award winning North West Director Al Lee, the UK’s most renowned big wall climber – Cumbrian Leo Holding, Manchester based climbing partner Jason Pickles, Burnley based 3d artist Dave Halsted and music label JackToPhono through to Manchester based post-producers Box Productions, is finally having a local screening at this year’s 7th Salford International Film Festival.

The Asgard Project has already picked up an extraordinary 12 international film festival awards, inlcuding best climbing film at this year’s Edinburgh Film Festival.

The adventure documentary follows Leo’s ambitious project to make the first free ascent on the North Tower of the incredible Mt Asgard on Baffin Island, deep inside the Arctic Circle. With a vertical face towering an impressive 1,000 metres, Leo teams up with fellow big wall climbing god, Stanley Leary (USA), as the duo hope that if they reach the summit, they can wing suit off the mountain.

Arriving late in the season the trip soon begins to go wrong after a spectacular arrival skydiving over Mt Asgard. Conditions quickly turn against the team where just reaching the base of the climb becomes a massive challenge.

Director Al Lee says: “I’m delighted there’s finally a screening on home turf for our formidable film. Anyone involved in film making knows how challenging this can be at the best of times, but when you’re dangling over a 3,000 ft sheer drop on the north face of an Arctic mountain, shaded from the sun 23 hours a day…….well it certainly pushed us all to the limit. It wouldn’t have been possible without every member of the team giving everything they had – and then some.”

The Asgard Project will be at the Salford International Film Festival: Thursday November 11th 2010 9pm at The Lowry, Salford Quays
