Durable water repellent

Durable Water Repellent (DWR) is a special finish that is applied to the face fabric of our soft shell jackets, waterproof jackets and winter trousers to maintain waterproofness and breathability.

DWR stops water being absorbed in to the face fabric which is essential to help maintain the breathability of the garment. Without DWR the face fabric would ‘wet out’ (become water logged) meaning that perspiration would be unable to escape from the body because it would be stopped by the wet layer. The perspiration would then cool and condense on the inside of the jacket making you wet and ultimately, colder.

DWR is not a permanent feature of the fabric - exposure to the elements, washing the garment and regular wear can strip the DWR from the fabric. It is essential that if your clothing has a DWR finish it is well maintained to ensure your clothing works at its best for you.
