Angelika Rainer – Ice climber

Overview:

Born and raised in South Tyrol, Italy, climbing was always going to be an obvious pursuit for Angelika. Even from a young age she had a real passion for the outdoors and as a child she regularly hiked with her mother in the mountains of South Tyrol.

Ever since her first alpine fixed-rope route she was hooked, from there she took part in regional, national and international competitions and, after winning the Junior Italian Championships in Sport climbing several times she became three times Ice Climbing World Champion and two times Ice Climbing World Cup winner.

• 2017 – Became the first woman in the world to climb D15 with A Line Above the Sky
• 2017 - 2nd place Ice Climbing World Cup Overall Ranking

• 2015 –1st place Ice Climbing World Cup

• 2015 – Champion of The Red Bull White Cliffs Challenge
• 2015 - Il panettiere, Valle dei mulini, 8b redpoint – first female ascent
• 2013 - 1st place Ice Climbing World Championships Cheongsong, South Corea
• 2012 – 1st Place Ice Climbing World Cup
• 2011 – 1st place Ice Climbing World Championships Busteni, Romania
• 2009 – 1st place Ice Climbing World Championships Saas Fee, Switzerland
• 2008 - 'Italia 61' 250m, 8a, Piz Ciavaces, Sella - Italian Dolomites - first women to climb this route free

My Ramche down jacket. Without this I couldn’t go out in winter and try to climb hard routes. I really need to stay warm to be able to perform well.

Angelika’s favourite thing to eat while out on her adventures is a homemade sandwich with ham or speck, which is a local South Tyrollean smoked pork meat.
