Berghaus Customer Service
From a young age, Steve Birkinshaw was active and tried lots of sports eventually settling on a love of fell running. Since then he has been regularly competing in prestigious outdoor events including the Dragon’s Back Race across the spine of Wales, which he placed first in 2013. He then went onto break the 27 year old record set by, legend and inspiration to Steve, Joss Naylor by summiting the 214 wainwright peaks in the Lake District in a staggering 6 days and 13 hours.
Steve balances a work and family life with competing at an elite level in some of the toughest races in the running calendar.
It’s not Berghaus but that’s ok, because it’s pretty important. Steve’s favourite piece of kit is a map.
“I always need to know where I am. With a map I feel happy and in control. Sometimes in the Lake District I do not take a physical map with me, I have looked at the maps and been in the fells so much I have a three-dimensional mental map in my head.”
In 1988 Steve was given a Berghaus Trango jacket for a birthday present by his parents. He took it on his first big adventure but upon leaving it in his tent at the Grand Canyon he returned to find a chipmunk has chewed a hole in the left arm. Naturally he was very upset but continued to wear it for another 8 years…hole and all. That’s true Berghaus love.
