Comparison Seeker and Guide Pro GTX pants

I was in need of pants to be used for daily dog walking and bicycle commuting in bad rainy weather. For these purposes the following requirements were important: tough build quality, breathability, freedom of movement and adjustable hems, sufficient leg zip length for easy putting on and off with shoes on. I ordered both the MTN Seeker GTX pants as the MTN Guide GTX Pro pants as I was not sure what would be best for my purposes. After 1 month of use in Dutch autumn weather my summary of pros/cons is as follows: MTN Seeker GTX pants: pros: lighter fabric than Guide GTX pants but still feels as very good quality material. This also makes them easier/quicker to put on/off. cons: no pockets, no gaiters, no stretch fabric which (I think) may make it less durable over time during continuous active movements such as cycling. MTN Guide GTX Pro pants: pros: fabric is stronger/heavier compared to seeker pants, and has stretch panels to ease movements. Front pockets. Integrated gaiters. cons: the slightly heavier fabric than seeker pants plus gaiter structure at hem will take you an extra minute to put them on. Sizing: I am 77kg, 185cm (inseam leg length 86cm, waist 85cm) and ordered a L size which is good for me and my use. Bear in mind these are overtrousers so the  little bit of roominess the L provides is needed for putting on/off and allowing movements. For cycling you don’t want pants that are a few cm short. For my purpose I choose the Guide GTX Pro pants mainly for their tougher fabric including stretch to better allow movements. The integrated gaiters do require an extra minute of time to properly put them on/off, but definitely seal off the hems very well (a must for cyclists). I find the price on the high side but I am convinced of the quality and design features. I hope this review helps others making a good choice.

Very good trousers with fantastic protection

I took these trousers up Hellvellyn in some serious cross winds and these were absolutely bomb proof. They are very easy to put on and keep on. The option to reduce the volume at your lower legs and ankle is fantastic and I wish more trousers had this. It makes scrambling and climbing a lot easier as you can have better view of your feet when you climb. The Zips are full length so you can vent very easily and the zipped fly is very convenient. You can also split the trousers with the zips so you don't have to argue with your B3 boots to get them on and off! This is a very good feature! These are very expensive so do bear that in mind.

Pro Pants are Perfect

Technical, strong, robust and well made pants. The quality is excellent and has been technically designed with good design features, pants have all the features that are needed, very long and strong zips. The material is thicker that the normal Goretex, its not the cheapest on the market but in life you get what you pay for, colour is great for visibility in extreme conditions. The Repairhaus is a great service if any repair work is required.
