Berghaus are supporting an ambitious husband and wife team running the length of South America, by providing them with kit to help them on their adventure.
On 27 July 2012 British couple Katharine and David Lowrie will take on an epic journey to run the length of South America; 5000 miles, the equivalent of 200 marathons in a single year, through some of the most awe inspiring and biologically rich ecosystems on earth.
The ecologist adventurer couple will run unsupported and each pull a convertible back-pack/trailer for camping, communications, science, food and water. The expedition will be a ‘world first’; first woman and first couple to run the continent.
In prepartion for their adventure Katharine and David have been undertaking numerous training challenges in South America, including training in Bolivia, Patagonia and Uruguay.
Through the challenge Katharine and David hope to raise money for wildlife charities to buy and conserve, threatened habitats in South America ensuring their conservation through local governance and employment.

David and Katahrine recently stayed at our home during their run along the wild and beautiful Carretera Austral, which runs through in Aysen, Chilean Patagonia. They are a wonderful couple and my wife and I admire their noble effort to help make the world a better place. During their stay they identified seventeen bird species and left us with the latin names which will help us to understand our local wildlife better. As a journalist I am the Patagonian correspondent for I Love Chile, the world’s premiere source of news on Chile, and wrote this article on their 5000 Mile Project. http://ilovechile.cl/2012/10/26/running-through-south-america-to-benefit-its-wildlife-and-wild-places/70911
We will be following their journey and supporting them in whatever way we can.
