It’s been a fun busy week
It started last Saturday when I went climbing with the Lancaster University Climbing Club.
We had a fun easy day on Corvus, on Raven Crag, Borrowdale swinging leads then a great meal in the Thai Restaurant in Keswick that night
On the Sunday I met the Lancaster University walking club for a walk in the rain on the Howgill Fells. I’ve driven past them a thousand times but had never walked them so was looking forward to it. We met at Cautley, below Cautley Spout, which I have climbed in winter. The picture is deceptive – it was already beginning to rain.
Setting out alongside Cautley Spout
Checking out the route – we didn’t see much but it was a fun walk and the Walking Club were great company
On Monday was an annual event. I have the in coming and outgoing officers of the Student Union to lunch – we squeezed 13 round our kitchen table.
Then walked up High Pike, behind our house before going to the pub.
Tuesday was more formal. I presented staff prizes at Lancaster University
Wednesday was my annual Berghaus walk when anyone in the Company is free to join me for a Lakeland walk. We started off at Honnister and walked below and round Gable to scramble up the side of Tophet Wall to the summit.
On our first rest stop some bottles of Champagne materialised, organised by our Brand President, Richard Cotter, to celebrate my being awarded Commander of the Victorian Order in the Queens Birthday Honour List. I was tremendously touched by this gesture.
A great way to celebrate and enjoy a walk.
and we ended up with a good scramble
More of the same.
On Thursday I went down to London for the Annual General Meeting of LEPRA, a Leprosy Charity of which I have been President for 25 years. They do a superb job.
Next week I’m off to Tromso in the far North of Norway to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the successful Norwegian Everest Expedition and get in a few days climbing – watch this space!!!!
