I had a great day yesterday with 45 members of the Berghaus team on my annual Bonington walk
We set out from the Mill Inn at Mungrisedale at about 10:45am, went up the valley towards Bannerdale Crag, climbed the ridge just to the left of the crag and then across to Blencathra up the ridge on its right hand sky line, dropping down to South Fell and following its crest back down to the Mill Inn getting back at around 15:45pm and a very welcome pint. It was a great day enjoyed by all.
Setting out, ridge is top left to the right of Bannerdale Crag – it’s a great way of approaching Blencathra from Mungrisedale.

Starting out on the Bannerdale Ridge. There is an old mine working half way up – just think of walking up there every day to start work.
The closest we got to a scramble, but it is a lovely airy open ridge.
The final slope to the top of Blencathra
