Not as good as I had hoped.

First the good stuff – the usual great quality I’ve come to expect from Berg over 30+ years of owning their equipment. The same attention to detail, great construction, quality base materials, the CS team are always good, even if you never get to talk to the same person twice. I will always be loyal to Berghaus even from half a world away, but… Packaging and international postage and partners need some looking too… it might be fine for UK orders but international orders are hit and miss at best, with 30% of my orders either getting lost before they leave the UK, or mysteriously disappearing in transit. One parcel turned up almost 6 weeks after having already been written off as ‘lost in transit. The Truda Flex. Whilst not An Gearasdan cold, Auckland is just as wet with its sub-tropic rainfall, so breathability is key as the jacket is often worn with just a t-shirt or long sleeve tech top. Really disappointing that a jacket worn (commuting) only 3 time since new 3 months ago and with only one really wet day’s wear, the sleeves, cuffs, hood and various other areas of the body are wetting out already. I may be the only one on this, but the water-based DWRs on Bergs simply doesn’t work or measure up to predecessor DWR in terms of performance, quality, reliability or function; and this effects no-one but the customer and Bergs reputation. A 3-month-old jacket should not need completely re-DWRing. Having to use twice as much material, product, more resources and more packaging to make the jacket work as intended defeats the purpose of any sustainability focus at manufacture. Whilst I’m at it I might as well reproof my original Trango, which after 30 years and some pretty unforgiving abuse suffers only from a few lost toggles which disintegrated and a fraying pocket zip – but it still out-performs my new Truda. An ok jacket in all, but not one of Bergs finest (sorry Berg :( ).
