lightweight and comfortable
5 out of 5 stars
I always order half size larger when I order Berghaus boots and although these move slightly at the heel when wearing thin socks I believe that a smaller size would press on my toes. The boots are very comfortable to walk in, the leather is good quality and flexible. I have yet to wear them in extreme weather but so far they have kept me dry in wet grass.

Good - BUT!

These boots are obviously well made from good quality materials and I am hopeful that they will prove to be durable as a result. However, my first two expeditions with them have proved to be somewhat underwhelming! After the first walk (of only an hour and a half) I had an open wound on my upper ankle as the collar was so unyielding (and has something very hard inside) and pressed into the flesh causing the damage. On my second outing (after the wound had healed), I wore an ankle support under my sock to cushion the pressure. This did help a bit but the tongue is so unyielding at the front that it causes abrasion on the upper ankle and proves to be severely uncomfortable. In the end, I didn't lace the top lugs so that the pressure was reduced. This obviously reduces the ankle support, which is not good, so I was not impressed. I am hoping that, with continued wearing, the tongue will soften to the extent that it becomes comfortable - time will tell. For a relatively expensive pair of boots, I am surprised that the design of the tongue is so poor when the rest of the boot is very good. I have recently bought a pair of Craghoppers Trek Boots as a second pair for less demanding walking - admittedly they are a softer, more lightweight and probably less durable boot but the tongue and collar were supremely comfortable from the first step.

Not the best

There comfy and warm until the water gets in, unfortunately the water always gets in even though I keep on top of the waterproofing.
Try the hillmaster before these
