When this coat arrived, I thought they must have sent me something else by mistake. The parcel was so light and small. As it turns out, this was my first insight into how brilliant this jacket is.
I have had it for a year now and am still blown away by how comfortable and lightweight it is, yet how warm it keeps me. I am a stocky 5ft 10 chap (mine is size Large), who does some weight lifting. I'm not super muscley but I have very broad shoulders and larger arms than most gents. This worried me initially buying online, but this coat is so strangely flexible. It's the first coat i've ever owned where movement has not been restricted in any way at all. I first used it in Edinburgh last year when we visited to do some Xmas shopping. I wore only a Tshirt underneath and felt comfortably warm when outside, and when indoors I simply unzipped the coat to cool down. No need for loads of layers and no sweating.
There's plenty of room for jumpers in there too. And the hood/zip arrangement means you can cover the bottom half of your face without having the hood up, and this means you don't need a scarf. Super impressed. Have purchased a second to leave in the car!
It's also super waterproof, rain beads off instantly. I've spent several hours in the rain and have remained dry - the hood cap is great for keeping it off your face.. All the below are outweighed by the many positives, but I have some comments..
The outer pockets are a bizarre shape, which require your hands to sit at odd angles to be kept warm.
There is a serious lack of pocket space inside the coat considering the cost of the jacket. The one zip pocket inside is so small it is only useful for spare pocket change. Why is it not big enough for even a small phone?
Some of the insulation can work it's way out through the stitching over time, which isn't brilliant but also happens so slowly it probably won't have an effect on performance.
Waterproofing can wear off, and I have noticed this primarily around the cuffs on the sleeves, where rubbing occurs. If you use a backpack I'd imagine this will happen on the shoulders too eventually. Still keeps you dry but obviously reduces the time until water reaches you.
